South Sardinia for Birdwatchers
Hotel Santa Lucia is right next to one of Europe’s most important natural areas, the Laguna of Santa Gilla which covers an area of about 15,500 hectares, between the towns of Cagliari, Capoterra, Elmas, and Assemini.
The wetlands of international interest, are now a natural habitat for many species of birds that live and nest in this area for the entire year or that arrive in Cagliari for the winter. The Santa Gilla lagoon is one of the major sites of national importance for the high number of pink flamingos, and therefore, for all birdwatchers. Among other bird species present there are the pink seagull, herons, cormorants, avocets, ducks, coots, gray and cavalieri d’italia.
